Recruiting BusinessesIn light of statements made by UAW officials over the weekend, our campaign started to reach out to businesses yesterday, and will be contacting more, today, to set up locations where everyone can make canned food and dried good donations for the families of workers on strike. We understand the importance of the continued vigilance of the UAW workers and we want to make sure that they can remain strong in their fight. If your business is interested in getting a collection box set up, please contact our campaign: [email protected]
All donations will be collected weekly (or sooner, depending on need). Sponsoring business and locations will be listed on this site, as well as on our social media, to alert anyone interested in contributing to this cause. The importance of this strike, and unions overall, cannot be understated. Their sacrifice was made when the company needed it most. Now, when they need it most, they struggle to find the same level of sympathy with their employer. Let us come together to make sure they can continue to make their stand for better treatment of laborers.
These past few weeks have been a roller coaster of excitement! Ups and downs, twists and turns, and never a dull moment. We have met with many key individuals who reside throughout District 5, and making the necessary connections to make this campaign truly successful.
Each step along the way has brought new insight and considerations, including the notion that things may not be feasible. However, we will not let such things dissuade our choice to stay in this fight. Moreover, labeling this a fight is quite accurate, as it seems every single day, more and more is being done by corporatists and elites to throw additional burdens on the working class, while raking in more profits for themselves. One of the most important challenges we face as a nation is ensuring that opportunity for success and a quality life is available to everyone, regardless of an individuals background. By enacting progressive policies and pushing for legislation, like Medicare For All and Free College Tuition, will enable those who are starting miles behind others to have a fighting chance to live the American Dream. One of the biggest hurdles for thousands of Americans to overcome is income inequality, which burdens a family for generations, as some of the most basic essentials for improving one's life remains out of reach. We know that, if given the opportunity, many Americans are willing to put in the work necessary to improve their standard of living. We also know that we have to make it a feasible task, as opposed to only allowing the already rich access to basic human rights. If you would like to join us for conversation and discussion over these issues, please swing by one of our events, called Push For Progress. The next event will be at Grounds For Thought in Bowling Green, Ohio, August 21st, 6pm-8pm We look forward to seeing you there! Author: Xavier Carrigan
Currently, we are putting together weekly meetings to give everyone an opportunity to participate in a Meet and Greet with MXC. The plan is to visit every county in District 5 - all 14 of them - multiple times, giving as many people as possible the chance to engage and discuss matters that mean the most to them. I (Xavier) am very excited to learn more about the constituency all around Northwest Ohio, and I am prepared to listen to your concerns and to discuss how, together, we can do actual work and get it heard on Capitol Hill. Our mission for this campaign makes it very clear, we are fighting for the regular Jane and Joe; common voices ignored by bought off politicians. Even if you just want to get to know more about who I am, I would love to meet as many people as possible over this next year and a half. That way, when we win this election, I can be best possible representation of everyone from District 5. I look forward to meeting everyone who can attend, and starting a constructive dialogue that benefits all of us. -Xavier By M. Xavier Carrigan
